Back in 1977, I was first drawn to and began playing the lap steel
guitar in Japan. I' ve played many kinds of instruments, but the
last few years have given me a chance to focus on the lap steel
guitar and my own style. |
|
 |
|
Of the steel guitars, the responsive Weissenborn hollow-necks
in particular radiate an echoing, shiny sound. The slide bar lets
us then sustain this sound as long as we like; this adds a certain
drive to the sound that is part of the infinite possibilities
of the electric lap steel guitar. The versatile synthesizer-like
potential of the lap steel guitar goes beyond the confinement
of genres and makes it an essential instrument for me to create
the personal type of music that I want. |

In addition to the lap steel guitar, I play the Mongolian two-stringed
batoukin (also called morin khuur, ma tou qin, horse-head fiddle).
As with the lap steel guitar, the batoukin player enjoys a lot
of freedom in how he plays the instrument. After some free-form
experimenting, I' ve come to appreciate the fun sounds that the
batoukin can sing. |

My solo career as a lap steel guitarist debuted in 2003 with the
album Song of grass Scent of sky. A second solo album, Fruits of Fortune, followed two years later in 2005 through MIDI Creative. And
my third solo album Wake is from Panco Records in 2008.
I am very happy that I can share the free, unconfined world of
the lap steel guitar with others worldwide. |
